- Director/Hula Instructor of The Birds of Paradise Hula Instructor for various cities Parks and Recreation in AZ. I have been dancing hula since I was 4 yrs. old. I started teaching hula back in 1981 on the island of Maui where I was born and raised. I moved to AZ in 1989 and started up another halau (hula school) in Mesa, AZ. It was a difficult start, as the Art of Hula was not a common dance to hear about or to teach. But with persistance I now have about 20 dancers that represent Malianani O' Hula Halau as The Birds of Paradise. I am very proud of my dancers as they have come to love the Art of Hula as I do.
